Last night Uncle had me conjugating my verbs, and this morning we explored past, present and future forms of a varity of statements.
Today I bathed and shampoo'd my hair with buble bath, before setting off on my walk. Uncles place is so close to most of the sights it's ridiculous. My first stop was the Plaza Navona .
Then off to the Pantheon; that marble floor I walked on has been walked on by the hoi polloi for over 2000 years
Then off down more back streets (I say back streets, but perhaps here they are main roads?) to the Fontana di Trevi
Which of course is just a few minutes from the Piazza di Spagna (Spaish Steps).
The another little jaunt takes me to the Piazza di Popolo
By now it's nearly 2pm and time for the tastest little lunch I've ever had.
Then ducking through more back streets parallel to the rver Tiber and look; more fountains!
And on my way back throught the Piazza di Navona, I had to stop at one of the many artists and have my caricature captured.
There is no bigger adventure in life, that stepping out of your comfort zone. Indeed comfort is highly overrated. I have 'gone to Rome to learn to teach English' and visit my long 'lost' uncle who has lived here as an English teacher for well over 30 years.

The Colosseo
Not more than 3 blocks from Uncles |
This building is commonly known as 'the wedding cake' or 'the type writer' |
And we thought that we had lots of damaged buildings after Larry & Yasi |
Roman centorion meets TV crew |
I'm hoping the local council might make a start of fixing some of these ruins up soon.
The Colosseo! And Me! Two of the most impressive ruins in the one picture. |
Trams! It's just like melbourne |
.
In the shop next door to Uncles, is a delicatesian who has the bigest salami you have ever seen!

Rome has lots of street like this. Today I went to the language school (which had moved, but not updated the address on the web site)
Then I walked around the Vatican (round the outside)
And wandered through the square
1
I caught the guards off guard
They were packing up after something
Then I came to a fork in the road
watched a Roman centurion knock down an old man (not really, but getting the right shot at the wrong time can give the illusion)
Could it be that there is no greater question in life?

Welcome to Rome
The ride from the airport was a maddening dash. Lane markings mean little, but cutting in front of others is normal and not greeted with horns or cursing. The only times horns sound is when movement stops.
The streets around Uncles are narrow and coblestoned. They have the classic coblestone sinking and rising, but are lovely to look at and complete the scene.
I went for a walk through plaza's and back streets looking for the language school, which I did not find.
The streets are full of sellers, tourists and waitiers; as every block has several restaurants and at least one pizzeria.
I took an alternate route home and followed one crooked street after another, finally stumbling accross the right cross street to get me home.
